Mats Ek – Memories of creations
Exhibition
from March 27 to August 31, 2025 inclusive
To discover in the public areas of the Palais Garnier, on the orchestra and parterre levels.
The exhibition is accessible as part of a visit to the Palais Garnier, except on days of exceptional closures (check calendar).
Curators: Coralie Cadène and Ana Laguna
To mark the revival of the ballet Appartement and Mats Ek's 80th birthday, the Palais Garnier will be decked out in the colours of the great choreographer.
To celebrate his work and Mats Ek's special relationship with the Paris Opera, a selection of iconic costumes and accessories from his great ballets (Carmen, Giselle, The House of Bernarda, Boléro, etc.) are on display in the public areas.
Extraordinary dresses, offbeat tunics, mechanical doll and even a bathtub plunge us into the inventive and poetic world of Mats Ek.
This exhibition, featuring pieces from the collections of the Paris Opera, private collections or on loan from major European institutions (Dansmuseet Stockholm, Royal Swedish Opera, Staatsoper Hamburg, Introdans, Semperoper Dresden), will run from 27 March to 31 August 2025.
Mats Ek exhibition - Memories of creations
A special bond exists between the Swedish choreographer and the Paris Opera Ballet.
His much-acclaimed Giselle became part of the repertoire in 1993 followed by the world premiere of Appartement in 2000 and the entry of The House of Bernarda and Une sorte de… in 2008.
Despite announcing that he no longer wished to choreograph, Mats Ek has returned to the Paris Opera Ballet in 2019 to offer the Company’s dancers two creations, Another Place and Boléro.
