Synopsis
Listen to the synopsis
The Demonstrations aim to give the public a glimpse of the rich choreographic vocabulary taught at the Ballet School directed by Élisabeth Platel. This objective is also pursued by the annual production, which opens with Antony Tudor’s Continuo, created in 1971 for the students of the Julliard School, and now entering the School’s repertoire. Set to Pachelbel’s famous canon, this ethereal, lyrical ballet draws the dancers into a continuous flow of movement.
Italian colours then take centre stage in August Bournonville’s romantic and picturesque ballet Napoli, in which the students perform the pas de six and the tarantella.
Finally, Maurice Béjart’s Sept Danses grecques enables students to master traditional steps, classical and modern writing to the music of Míkis Theodorákis, who died in 2021.
