The Paris Opera opens auditions for its troupe of lyrical artists.

Initiated by Paris Opera General Director Alexander Neef at the beginning of his term, this project will help to strengthen the professional opera sector in France and create a new perspective between artists and audiences: "The creation of a troupe means an extraordinary opportunity for the opera artists, who need to be supported and followed at the beginning of their career. It is a guarantee, for singers who need to 'tame' the stage, of stability, artistic development and fame. It is also a way to weave new connections with audiences, who will discover new voices and personalities, follow them on the long-term, in Paris or on tours, or during pedagogic activities everywhere in France”.

The Paris Opera troupe will eventually comprise up to 15 opera artists who will perform a part of the roles of the opera season's programme. Hired after a first selection based on files review, then on an audition, they will remain at the Paris Opera for three seasons. Each of them will be cast in about forty performances per season, first in second roles and then in lead roles alongside with the guest artists.

The troupe members may have responsibilities of understudy, as well as take part in other activities including concerts and tours.

Eight positions are already available for online registration from 7 July 2022 in the following sections: light lyric soprano, lyric mezzo-soprano, light lyric tenor, lyric baritone, bass-baritone.

The Paris Opera troupe's activity will start at the beginning of the 2023/24 Season.
