Paris Opera’s 350th anniversary Gala Wednesday, 8 May 2019 - Palais Garnier, Paris, France
The Opera's 350th Anniversary Gala was held on Wednesday, 8 May 2019 at the Palais Garnier, at the initiative of Stéphane Lissner, General Director of the Paris national Opera, with the major support of Rolex and of the Maison de Haute Couture Schiaparelli.
The year 2019 marks the 350th anniversary of the Paris Opera, originally named "Académie royale de Musique” (Royal Academy of Music) and instituted by letters patent by King Louis XIV on 28 June 1669. This time, the event was focused on lyrical art, thus echoing the Opening Gala of the dance season, which is held annually in September.
Thanks to the support of Rolex, Exclusive Timepiece of the Paris Opera, of the Maison de Haute Couture Schiaparelli, partner of the Opera's 350th anniversary Gala, and of the generous donors of the Honorary Committee, this Gala raised significant funds for the benefit of the lyrical activities of the Institution.
The attendees climbed the steps of the Palais Garnier and found themselves immersed in a dreamlike universe throughout the whole evening.
Numerous personalities came to cheer the soprano Anna Netrebko and the tenor Yusif Eyvasov in an exceptional program bringing together the greatest arias of the repertoire, accompanied by the Paris Opera orchestra directed by Maestro Lorenzo Viotti.
At the end of the recital, nearly 700 guests gathered in the Grand Foyer and the Avant-Foyer of the Palais Garnier for a dinner, which menu was imagined by 3-stars chef Éric Frechon, head of the restaurant Epicure - Le Bristol Paris.
To close the evening, the DJ and singer Kiddy Smile and his dancers took the lead and hosted the after party of the Gala that took place, for the first time, right on the stage of the Palais Garnier.
