  • Death of the conductor Georges Prêtre

Stéphane Lissner and all the staff of the Opéra National de Paris are deeply saddened to hear of the death of the conductor Georges Prêtre.
For Stéphane Lissner, "A musical giant has passed on today. Georges Prêtre marked the history of the Paris Opera, in particular conducting the major works from the French and Italian repertoire at the Palais Garnier up until the late 1980s.
We also remember with particular emotion the concert entitled "La Nuit avant le jour" that Georges Prêtre conducted on July 13 1989 for the inauguration of the Opéra Bastille. A large number of staff from the Opera remember working with Maestro Prêtre.
I personally had the privilege of welcoming him on many occasions to La Scala Milan where he gave numerous symphonic concerts of which I have very vivid memories.
