The winners of the Arop Prizes for the 2023/2024 season are Hortense Millet-Maurin and Jack Gasztowtt for the Dance Prizes, and Sima Ouahman and Adrien Mathonat for the Lyric Prizes.
During the 23/24 season, Hortense Millet-Maurin, Sujet, particularly stood out in Giselle by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, in Swan Lake by Rudolf Nureyev, as well as in La Fille mal gardée, where she performed the role of Lise. Jack Gasztowtt, Premier Danseur and Sujet during the 23/24 season, distinguished himself in Stepping Stones and Petite Mort by Jiří Kylián, in Swan Lake by Rudolf Nureyev where he portrayed Rothbart, and in La Fille mal gardée, where he performed the role of Colas.
The Lyric Prizes were awarded to soprano Sima Ouahman and bass Adrien Mathonat, both artists-in-residence at the Paris Opera Academy during the 2023/2024 season. Sima Ouahman performed the role of a Pastourelle in L’Enfant et les sortilèges by Ravel, in the staging by Richard Jones and Antony McDonald at the Palais Garnier, and that of Mrs. Fiorentino in Street Scenes, directed by Ted Huffman and conducted by Yshani Perinpanayagam at the MC93 - Maison de la Culture de Seine-Saint-Denis. Adrien Mathonat performed the roles of Curio in Giulio Cesare by Handel, under the direction of Harry Bicket, and the Tree in L’Enfant et les sortilèges by Ravel at the Paris Opera, as well as that of Olsen in Street Scenes.
Since 1986, the members of Arop have awarded the Dance Prizes each season to a promising young female and male dancer from the Corps de Ballet of the Paris Opera. These prizes have been endowed since 2019 (for a period of ten years) through the generosity of Madame Jeannine Auber, who, through her bequest to Arop, wished to support new generations of Opera dancers and, in doing so, share her passion for dance.
Since 1998, the Lyric Prizes have honored a female and a male singer from the Paris Opera Academy among the soloists recognized in productions from the previous season.
Arop, the Association for the Promotion of the Paris Opera, supports the implementation of the institution’s creation, transmission, and training projects, and is particularly committed to supporting its young artists.
