Yaritza Véliz Soprano

Biography

Chilean soprano Yaritza Véliz is the winner of San Francisco Opera's Emerging Stars 2023 competition. She made her Glyndebourne Festival debut in 2022 as Mimi (La Bohème) and appeared at San Francisco Opera as Catrina (Gabriela Lena Frank's Frida y Diego). She sang Alice Ford (Falstaff) at the Komische Oper in Berlin and Violetta (La Traviata) at the National Theater in Prague - a role she also sang at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile. She made her debut at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw as Suzel in a concert version of L'Amico Fritz with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest. Last season she returned to London's Royal Opera House as Mimi, sang Violetta at the Norwegian National Opera, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at the Opéra de Rouen, Juliette (Les Capulet et les Montaigu) for the Opéra national de Lorraine and Adina (L'Élixir d'amour) at the Santa Fe Opera.

In concert, she gave her first performances of Strauss' Four Last Songs and Beethoven's Missa solemnis with the Municipal Orchestra of Santiago de Chile, conducted by Roberto Rizzi-Brignoli. In the 2024-2025 season, Yaritza Véliz will make her debut as Violetta at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. She will also appear as Mimi at the Hamburg State Opera and the Houston Grand Opera. She returns to London's Royal Opera House as Micaëla (Carmen) under the baton of Sir Mark Elder. She makes her debut as Desdemona (Otello) at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile and her Dallas Opera debut as Violetta.
