Born in Cannes in 1956, Yann Collette trained at the Cours Simon and then at the Centre d'art dramatique de la rue Blanche in Paris. His theater credits include Othon, Madame de Sade, Iago (Othello ou le Maure de Venise), Baron de Touzenbach (Les Trois Soeurs), Valmont (Les Liaisons dangereuses), the Devil (Le Livre de Job) and Bartleby.
He has acted in productions by André Engel, Xavier Basin, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Alain Françon, Jean-Louis Martinelli and Patrick Sommier. Yann Collette co-founded the Théâtre Au Chapeau rouge with Pierre Pradinas and Catherine Frot, in Avignon. On the silver screen, he first played Patrice Dupin (Georges Lautner's La Maison assassinée).
He then appeared in films by Jacques Rivette (Jeanne la Pucelle), Vincent Ravalec (Cantique de la racaille, La Merveilleuse Odyssée de l'idiot toboggan), Édouard Molinaro (Le Souper), Enki Bilal (Bunker Palace Hotel, Tykho Moon, Immortel), Manuel Flèche (Marie-Louise ou la permission), Philippe de Broca (Le Bossu), Philippe Garrel (J'entends plus la guitare), Robert Altman (Prêt-à-porter), Marc Caro (Dante 01) and Bernie Bonvoisin (Les Démons de Jésus). Yann Collette regularly works for television, notably with Hervé Baslé (Le Cri, La Très Excellente et Divertissante Histoire de François Rabelais), Serge Moati (Jésus), Ziad Doueri (Dérapages avec Éric Cantona) and Fabien Nury (Paris police 1900).
