Biography

Born in 1979 in Koblenz, Germany, Victoria Behr studied costume design at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. After graduating in 2003, she worked as a costume designer at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, the Schauspielhaus and Opernhaus Zurich and the Salzburg Festival. Since 2008, she has been working as a freelance costume designer. She has worked with directors Lucia Bihler, Jan Bosse, Herbert Fritsch, Barrie Kosky, Dagmar Manzel and Antú Romero Nunes, for institutions such as Berlin's Volksbühne and Schaubühne, Vienna's Burgtheater, Hamburg's Thalia Theater, Munich's Residenztheater, Komische Oper Berlin, Vienna's Staatsoper, Munich's Bayerische Staatsoper, Opéra national de Lyon, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and London's Royal Opera House.

In 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2020 and 2023, Victoria Behr received the "Costume Designer of the Year" award from German magazine Theater heute for her creations. In 2013, she won the "Costume Designer of the Year" award in the Opera category from Opernwelt magazine for her creations of Frau Luna and Les Trois Soeurs. She has collaborated with Australian director Benedict Andrews at London's Young Vic Theatre / New York's St. Ann's Warehouse, the Royal Danish Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Amsterdam National Opera and English National Opera.
