Biography

Member of the Paris Opera Lyric Troupe

Canadian-Armenian bass-baritone Vartan Gabrielian holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the Curtis Institute of Music. He is also an alumnus of the Canadian Opera Company’s ensemble and the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice program.

In 2022, Gabrielian was a finalist at the Belvedere Competition as well as a Semi-Finalist of the 2023 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. He is also a recipient of awards from numerous organisations including the Metropolitan Opera National Council, Career Bridges Schuyler Foundation, Gerda Lissner Foundation, Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation and the George London Foundation.

Highlights of the 2023/24 season have included Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress) at Festival de Verbier, Basilio (The Barber of Seville) at at the Des Moines Metro Opera, Fasolt (Das Rheingold) with the Edmonton Opera, as well as Basilio, Brother Laurent (Romeo and Julier) and The Captain (Florencia en el Amazonas) at Opera San Jose.

He has joined the Paris Opera Lyric Troupe for the 2024/25 season.
