Valerio Tiberi was born in Spoleto, where he began his professional career. He was Assistant Lighting Designer for Teatro alla Scala from 2013 to 2018 and now works for the opera, theatre and ballet. Since 2014 he is technical supervisor and lighting designer of the Ballet Gala Roberto Bolle & Friends. He is regularly working in fashion shows such as Valentino, Dolce&Gabbana, Il Gufo, Neil Barrett.
Valerio Tiberi has been working for international musicals, including Dirty Dancing, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Kinky Boots, The Addams Family, Mary Poppins, West Side Story, Pinocchio, The Mission, Flashdance, Phantom of the Opera. He designed for the opera the lighting of The Barber of Seville at Teatro di San Carlo Naples, I due foscari at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and La Fenice in Venice, La Fille du régiment at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the children versions of L’Elisir d’amore, La Cenerentola, The Magic Flute and The Barber of Seville at Teatro alla Scala Milan, Ariadne auf Naxos and Fidelio at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
He collaborated regularly with director Nicola Barloffa designing Hamlet in Saint Etienne, Orfeo e Euridice in Cagliari, Don Carlo in St.Gallen, La Fanciulla del West in Seoul, Andrea Chenier in Toulon, Lucia di Lammermoor in Tenerife and Oviedo, and Madama Butterfly in Palermo.
Latest productions include Nabucco in Palermo, Idomeneo in Copenhagen, Il Viaggio a Reims in Reims, Toulouse, Avignon, Marseille, and Norma in Sassari. He created the lighting design for Carmen at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Idomeneo at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and La Gioconda at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. He worked with stage director Pierre Audi for Simon Boccanegra and Orfeo e Euridice (original lighting by Jean Kalman) in Tokyo, Toulon and Helsinki.
Since 2006 he teaches Lighting Design at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala. He won the Le Maschere Award for Musical Theatre in category Best Lighting Design 2015 for Frankenstein Jr and in 2016 for Cabaret.
