Biography

Theresa Kronthaler grew up in Rome. After her graduation from the Hanns Eisler Hochschule in Berlin, she has continued to perform on the major stages of Europe.

As a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and then the Komische Oper in Berlin, she has played major roles in productions of L'Orfeo, Giulio Cesare, Xerxes, The Marriage of Figaro, Così fan tutte, The Clemency of Titus, La Belle Hélène, The Tales of Hoffmann, and Hansel and Gretel.

She has also performed as a regular guest at the Theater an der Wien, the Frankfurt Opera, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the De Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, the Bremen Opera, and the Teatro Real in Madrid in roles such as Carmen, Eglantine (Euryanthe), the Lady (Cardillac), Clairon (Capriccio), Marguerite (The Damnation of Faust), Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda), Isoletta (La straniera), as well as in several world premieres. During the 2023-2024 season, Theresa Kronthaler is performing Sieglinde (The Valkyrie) in Basel and Jenny (The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny) in Bari.

In concerts, she has toured several times in Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Egypt, and has performed on various international stages, including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Grand Hall of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Society, and the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf.

She has worked with directors such as Christoph Loy, Barrie Kosky, Keith Warner, Lydia Steier, and has sung under the direction of conductors like Henrik Nanasy, Markus Poschner, Michael Boder, Marin Alsop, and Jonathan Nott.

Her debut album titled "The Living Loving Maid" – a modern reinterpretation of famous Baroque arias arranged by members of her Kronthaler Trio – was released by Sony Classical.
