Biography

Winner of the Prix Operalia Plácido Domingo, Stefan Pop performs on the major international opera stages: Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden, London Royal Opera House, Opéra national de Paris, Hamburg Staatsoper, Vienna Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Zurich Opera, Teatro Real Madrid, Frankfurt Opera and New Israeli Opera Tel Aviv. He is also a regular guest in Japan. He has worked with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi, Daniele Rustioni, Daniele Gatti, Michele Mariotti and Nello Santi. A concert tour with Angela Gheorghiu took him to Seoul, Shanghai and Oman Muscat. In 2019, he won the Oscar della Lirica Young Generation.

In recent seasons, he has performed the roles of Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca) in London, Rodolfo (La Bohème) in Liège and Vienna, and Duca (Rigoletto) in Taormina under the direction of Plácido Domingo. In the 2023-2024 season, he sings the title role in Don Carlo and Pinkerton (Madame Butterfly) at Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden. He also sang Duca and Rodolfo at London's Royal Opera House, Macduff (Macbeth) at Munich's Bayerische Staatsoper, Rodolfo in Tokyo and Trondheim, Don Carlo at Dresden's Semperoper and Verdi's Messa di Requiem with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. His Jacopo (I due Foscari) in a new production in Parma has been released on CD and Blu-ray.
