Biography

Simon Valastro graduated from la Scala Ballet School in Milan in 1998, and joined the Paris Opera Corps de Ballet that same year. In 2003, he was promoted to "Coryphée", then to "Sujet" the following year. He was awarded the AROP Dance Prize in 2008. He choreographed Stratégie de l'Hippocampe for the Young Choreographers evening at the Opéra Bastille Amphitheater (2013), as well as Bovary and Nuit Blanche for the Cadences Festival in Arcachon (2014), Tissues for the "Music and Dance" evening at the Palais Garnier, and Palindrome Presque Parfait at the Théâtre André Malraux in Gagny (2015).

At the instigation of Benjamin Millepied, then Director of Dance, he joined the Académie Chorégraphique de l'Opéra de Paris. He presented his first piece, The Little Match Girl Passion, at the Palais Garnier. In 2021, he returned to the Académie as director in residence.

He has created plays at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, La Scala in Milan, the Rome Opera House and the San Carlo Theatre in Naples. He plays an active part in the artistic projects of the group "Les Italiens de l'Opéra". He is also artistic director of the Paris Opera's ‘Opera en Guyane’ productions.
