After graduating in law (Bachelor's degree) and studying accordion at the Avignon Conservatoire, Rémy Bres went on to study singing at the Marseille Conservatoire where he perfected his vocal technique with Magali Damonte. He then studied Lied and contemporary music with Mareike Schellenberger at the Aix-en-Provence Conservatoire and followed the masterclasses of Susan Manoff, Brigitte Balleys and Sandrine Piau. Winner of the Prix Jeune Espoir (Young Hope) from the Centre Français de Promotion Lyrique (International Opera Competition in Gordes) and first prize at the 2019 Marmande International Singing Competition, the Gabriel Dussurget Foundation awarded him the Dussurget ‘Young Hope’ Award at the 2019 Aix-en-Provence Festival. He made his professional debut with Triade (Barokko) at the Perm Academic Theatre and Baltic House Festival, Saint Petersburg.
He then worked with the Théâtre NoNo, a company with which he initiated a research centred on the link between the countertenor voice, theatre and contemporary arts. Since then, he has been taking part in the creations of Concerto Soave. Rémy Bres forms a duo with pianist Yoann Pourre. Together, they have performed recitals at the Lavaux Classic (Switzerland), the Musicales du Luberon (Gordes), and the Folle Criée (Marseille) featuring romantic and contemporary works and based on the theme of ‘l’heure exquise’ (the exquisite hour).
Recent projects include Carmina Burana at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne, Delio (L’amazone Corsera) at the Festival der Alten Musik in Innsbruck, Pierre Thilloy’s work Sama la Lumière exilée in Belfort, Magacle (L’Olympiade des Olympiades) at the Beaune Festival, the title role in Handel’s Flavio at the Bayreuth Baroque Festival, Tolomeo (Giulio Cesare) at the Leipzig Opera and Rome Opera. Future engagements include Flavio at the Theater an der Wien, Magacle at the Opéra de Nice, and numerous concert performances.
