Pierre-André Weitz Set designer
Season 24/25 Artist

Biography

Pierre-André Weitz made his first step on a theatre stage at the Théâtre du Peuple, in Bussang, at the age of 10, where he played, sang, made and designed sets and costumes until the age of 25. In parallel, he studied architecture in Strasburg and joined the Lyrical art Conservatoire. In 1989, he met with Olivier Py and has been designing, ever since, all his sets and costumes. He created over 200 stage designs with various directors, both for the theatre and the opera (Jean Chollet, Michel Raskine, Claude Buchvald, Jean-Michel Rabeux, Ivan Alexandre, Jacques Vincey, Hervé Loichemol, Sylvie Reutona, Karelle Prugnaud, Mireille Delunsch, Christine Berg...).

This interest for space and time drives him to perform, as musician or actor or singer, in performances. He has taught scenography for over twenty years at the Strasbourg School of Decorative Arts. He staged three productions of the Palazzetto Bru Zane: The Knights of the Round Table, Mam’zelle Nitouche and Vlan dans l’œil. More recently he designed the costumes for Thaïs, La Juive, Les Huguenots, The Queen of Spade, Henry VIII (Saint-Saëns) at La Monnaie in Brussels, Madama Butterfly in Athens, Orphée aux Enfers in Lausanne, Boris Godunov at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, L’Amour vainqueur at Théâtre du Châtelet. Future engagements include Peer Gynt at Théâtre du Châtelet and Norma at Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

At the Paris Opera: The Rake’s Progress, 2008; Mathis le peintre, 2010; Aida, 2013; Alceste, 2013
