Nicolás Fischtel studied lighting design at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and then as a Fulbright Scholar at Yale University School of Dramatic Art (USA). He was technical director and resident lighting designer with the Spanish National Dance Company directed by Nacho Duato. A founding member of AAI (Association of Lighting Authors of Spain), he is a senior associate of LDNY (Lighting Designers of New York).
Since 1991, Nicolás Fischtel has created a multitude of lighting designs for dance, theater, plays and music in theaters and companies all over the world: Norma (Teatro Real Madrid and Teatro San Carlo Naples), Da Ponte's three operas at the Grand Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), La Traviata (Teatro Real Madrid, Grand Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla and Teatro calderón Valladolid), as well as the ballets Remansos (Nacho Duato, Teatro alla Scala, Milan), Chacona (Goyo Montero, Teatro dell'opera di Roma), Don Quichotte (Ballet de l'Opéra de Bordeaux) and Petrushka (Sao Paulo dance Company).
Nicolás Fischtel has twice won the Josep Solbes Award for Best Lighting at the Valencian Performing Arts Awards (2006 and 2008), and in 2022 won the Max Award for Best Lighting for CreAcción (Metamorphosis Dance Company).
