Biography

Meiko Nakahira began playing the violin in Japan at the age of 3. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai) and went on to study with Tedi Papavrami at the Haute École de Musique de Genève (HEM) in Switzerland. She holds a Master's degree in solo performance and a Master's degree in orchestral performance.

Meiko Nakahira is a prizewinner in numerous competitions, including the Henri Stern Competition at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, the Malta International Music Competition, the Osaka International Music Competition and the Czech Republic Music Competition. She also won the UNESCO Award at the Città di Palmanova International Music Competition.

She takes part in numerous academies such as the Accademia Chigiana (Siena), Virtuoso & Belcanto (Lucca), Accademia Stauffer (Cremona), Tibor Varga (Sion) and benefits from the advice of Jean-Pierre Wallez, Olivier Charlier, Gérard Poulet, Boris Belkin, Patricia Kopachinskaja, Stephan Picard, Massimo Quarta, Mihaela Martin and Renaud Capuçon.

Meiko Nakahira has been invited to the Verbier Festival, the Festival de Pâques de Aix-en-Provence, the Festival Musica Strasbourg, the Musikfest Nara and the Festival de Bellerive, and has performed under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Klaus Mäkelä, Lahav Shani, Gabor Takaks-Nagy, Peter Eötvös and Jonathan Nott. She performs as soloist with Ensemble la Luna, the HEM Orchestra conducted by Yann Kerninon and Pierre Bleuse, and works in chamber music with Yuko Mori, Gabor Takacs-Nagy, Miguel da Silva, Adrian Brendel, the Quatuor Voce, Bruno Giuranna and Luc-Marie Aguera.

She joins the Académie de l'Opéra national de Paris in September 2024.
