Trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School, Manuel Legris joined the Paris Opera Ballet in 1980. Appointed Etoile in 1986 by Rudolf Nureyev, then Director of the Ballet, he dances the major roles of the classical and contemporary repertoire and participates in numerous creations. He also performs with the world's leading ballet companies and with his own group, "Manuel Legris et ses Étoiles".
In May 2009, he retired from the Paris Opera, where he was a guest soloist and continued to dance on numerous international stages. Director of the Vienna State Ballet from 2010 to 2020, he then becomes Director of the Milan Scala Ballet, a position he holds until March 2025. Manuel Legris has choreographed several works, including reinterpretations and adaptations of works from the classical repertoire. His most notable creations include Le Corsaire (2016 - Vienna Opera Ballet), Sylvia (2018 - Vienna Opera Ballet), Le Corsaire (2023 - La Scala Ballet, Milan).
At the Paris Opera, Manuel Legris' repertoire includes leading roles in major classical productions as well as works by Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, Maurice Béjart, Trisha Brown, John Cranko, Nacho Duato, Mats Ek, Michail Fokin, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Pierre Lacotte, Harald Lander, Serge Lifar, Kenneth MacMillan, John Neumeier, Rudolf Noureev, Roland Petit, Angelin Preljocaj, Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Antony Tudor or Rudi van Dantzig.
