Biography

Joséphine Korda studied composition and conducting at the École normale de musique de Paris, where she obtained an advanced diploma in conducting and composition with masters Dominique Rouits and Julien Masmondet, and composer Régis Campo. In 2022, she obtained an advanced certificate in contemporary repertoire from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, under the direction of Arturo Tamayo.

Joséphine Korda also holds an honours degree in music from Oxford University, where she is a researcher in choral and instrumental singing. In 2024, she obtained a Master's degree in conducting from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in the classes of Mark Heron and Clark Rundell.

She was guest conductor at Marin Alsop's Women's Conducting Masterclass with the Philharmonia at Queen Elizabeth Hall. She has also taken part in numerous international competitions, and was a finalist in the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors 2021.

Joséphine Korda is substitute conductor at Northern Ballet, and works in parallel as trainee conductor at Opera North (2022-23) and assistant conductor at Opéra de Massy, Paris (2020-21). She participated in the 57th and 58th editions of the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors, reaching the semi-finals in 2023, and took part in several masterclasses, notably with Marin Alsop and the Philharmonia, Daniele Gatti at the Chigiana Academy, Jorma Panula, Sir Mark Elder and Antony Hermus.

She conducts the Hallé, Philharmonia Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Orchestre Victor Hugo Franche-Comté, Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne, Ensemble Variances and Ensemble des Apaches. Joséphine Korda regularly assists the BBC and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on behalf of the Royal Northern College of Music.

Joséphine Korda joins the Académie de l'Opéra national de Paris in September 2024.
