After serving as the technical director of the Théâtre de Dix Heures and the Théâtre du Ranelagh in Paris, James Angot assisted Giuseppe Frigeni at the Théâtre National de Chaillot with the lighting design for L'estran, choreographed by Françoise and Dominique Dupuis. He later ventured into lighting creation with sens 1, a choreography by Pedro Pauwels, while continuing to collaborate with lighting designers such as André Diot, Pascal Sautelet, and Frank Thevenon.
In parallel with dance, James participated in musical projects, providing lighting for artists such as Romain Didier, Allain Leprest, Jean Guidoni, Marianne James, and Enzo Enzo.
From 2006 to 2014, he served as technical director and lighting designer for 3e Étage, a group of dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet, during which he designed lighting for Samuel Murez's choreographies and the "carte blanche" performances for Agnès Letestu.
In 2011, he designed the lighting for the play Lettre d'un Joueur by Pierre Lacotte, starring Agnès Letestu and Stéphane Bullion (Étoiles of the Paris Opera Ballet) at the Opéra de Massy.
From 2010 to 2024, he worked with choreographer Patrick De Bana, designing the lighting for ballets such as Marie Antoinette at the Staatsoper in Vienna in 2010 and later at the Opéra Royal in Versailles. Other works include the ballet Jane Eyre at the Shanghai Opera in 2012, The Rite of Spring at the Novosibirsk Opera in 2013, Rain before it falls at the Bolshoi Theatre in 2016, Windgames at the Staatsoper in Vienna in 2013, the Teatro Colón in 2023, and the Rome Opera in 2024, as well as Notre-Dame de Paris in Shenyang in 2023.
In recent years, he has been the technical director and lighting designer for Les Italiens de l'Opéra, a group of dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet directed by Alessio Carbone, as well as a lighting designer for some productions of the Paris Opera Academy directed by Myriam Mazouzi.
He recently designed the lighting for the pieces Arbakkinn and Appointed rounds, choreographed by Simon Valastro.
