A former member of the Atelier lyrique, then the Opéra national de Lyon, Frédéric Caton performed there many roles during four seasons, such as Colline (La Bohème), the Monk (Don Carlo), Sarastro and Sprecher (The Magic Flute), Bartolo (Le Nozze di Figaro), Don Fernando (Fidelio)…
Since, he has been a regular guest on major international stages: Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Wien Konzerthaus, Theater an der Wien, Barbican Center London, Ravenna Festival, Frankfurt Opera, Salzburg Festival, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, La Monnaie Brussels, Edinburgh Festival, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opéra de Monte‑Carlo… as well as in the leading French opera houses.
He took part in many recordings, among which L’Enfance du Christ, Berlioz’s Huit scènes de Faust, Werther, La Damnation de Faust, Docteur Faustus, Guillaume Tell, Phaëton or The Trojans.
He performed Eumée (Fauré’s Pénélope) and Bartolo (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse, Capulet (Romeo and Juliet) at Teatro alla Scala, Brander (La Damnation de Faust) in Monte-Carlo, the title-role of Devin du village and Anselme (Les Paladins) at the Opéra Royal de Versailles, the Second Philistine (Samson et Dalila) at the Chorégies d’Orange, Arbas / Protée (Idoménée) in Lille and at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Alain de Dinam (Lancelot) in Saint-Étienne.
