Biography

A former member of the Atelier lyrique and then of the Opéra national de Lyon troupe, Frédéric Caton performed numerous roles over four seasons, including Colline (La Bohème), the Monk (Don Carlo), Sarastro and the Sprecher (The Magic Flute), Bartolo (The Marriage of Figaro), Don Fernando (Fidelio)....

He is a regular guest on major international stages: La Scala in Milan, Theater an der Wien, Barbican Center in London, Ravenna Festival, Frankfurt Opera, Salzburg Festival, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, La Monnaie in Brussels, Edinburgh Festival, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opéra de Monte-Carlo... as well as in most major French opera houses.

His recordings include L'Enfance du Christ, Huit scènes de Faust by Berlioz, Werther, La Damnation de Faust, Docteur Faustus, Guillaume Tell, Phaëton and Les Troyens. In recent years, he has performed Capulet (Roméo et Juliette) at La Scala in Milan, Brander (La Damnation de Faust) in Monte-Carlo and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the title role in Le Devin du village and Anselme (Les Paladins) at the Opéra Royal de Versailles, the Second Philistine (Samson et Dalila) at the Chorégies d'Orange, Alain de Dinam (Lancelot) and Nourabad (Les Pêcheurs de perles) in Saint-Étienne, the Marquis de La Force (Dialogues des carmélites) in Bordeaux, Don Pedro (Béatrice et Bénédict) in Rennes, Bartolo in Marseille. In the 2024-2025 season, he is Melchtal (Guillaume Tell) at Opéra de Lausanne and Ferrando (Le Trouvère) at Opéra de Québec.
