Dmitry Matvienko Conductor

Biography

Dmitry Matvienko studied choral conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and is a member of the MusicAeterna Choir of the Perm Opera-Ballet under the artistic direction of Teodor Currentzis. He continued his conducting studies at the Moscow Conservatory and, in 2017, joined the conductor's internship program of the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Spivakov. There he assists and prepares various programs for conductors such as Vladimir Yurovsky, Vasili Petrenko and Mikhail Yurovsky.

Dmitry Matvienko was awarded First Prize and Audience Prize at the Malko Competition for Young Conductors in 2021. The 2024-2025 season marks the beginning of his tenure as Chief Conductor of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. In recent seasons Dmitry Matvienko has conducted orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Orchestre philarmonique de Monte-Carlo, the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Bergen Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Turin, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He conducted De la maison des morts at the Rome Opera.

In the 2024-2025 season he will conduct the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra and others, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra del Mai musical di Firenze, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. He conducts Eugène Onéguine at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Les Fiançailles au couvent at the Theater an der Wien.
