Born in Paris, Denis Guéguin obtained a degree in Film Studies and another in Theatre Studies in 1984. He made experimental videos and took part in creative video festivals (Souvenir l’œil, Miroirs obscurs, L’accouplement des licornes… ; lockdown videos, Krystian Lupa, les acteurs et leur rêve on Viméo).
Since 2003, he has collaborated on about twenty theatre and opera productions with Krzysztof Warlikowski, for whom he made videos as integral parts of live performances. His work for the theatre includes A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, Madame de Sade, A Streetcar, Koniec / La Fin, Les Français, Phèdre(s), and for the opera: The Rake’s Progress at Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Ubu Rex at Warsaw, Poppea e Nerone and Alceste at Teatro Real Madrid, Médée, Macbeth, Lulu, Don Giovanni at La Monnaie in Brussels, Die Frau ohne Schatten and Les Stigmatisés at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Le Triomphe du temps et de la désillusion for the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Wozzeck at Dutch National Opera, Pelléas et Mélisande for the Rurhtriennale, From the House of the Dead at Royal Opera House Covent Garden and The Bassarids at the Salzburg Festival.
He also directed videos for musical works: Sinfonia III, The Seven Deadly Sins, Liebeslieder Walzer, Secret Tears (installation-recital), Metamorphosis and La Voix humaine. More recently, he created Nocturne with the Paris Opera Academy.
His book of interviews and photos L'Art vidéo à l'Opéra dans l'œuvre de Krzystof Warlikowski was published by Alternatives théâtrales. He runs workshops on video art at the ENSATT school. He is creating the videos of Macbeth for the 2023 Salzburg Festival.
