Born in Oman and a graduate of Los Angeles Opera's Young Artist Program, Deepa Johnny made her debut as Penelope (Le Retour d'Ulysse dans sa patrie) under Leonardo García Alarcón in a new production by Pierre Audi at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2024. She sang the title role of Carmen under Ben Glassberg in Romain Gilbert's production for the Opéra de Rouen, and Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro) at Portland Opera and San Jose Opera. She also appeared at the Manchester International Festival, the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, the Bregenz Festival and London's Southbank Centre in the world premiere of The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions, a play by Ted Huffman and Philip Venables based on Larry Mitchell's seminal text on LGBTQ+ rights.
Her 2024-2025 season includes numerous roles and debuts with various institutions, including concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel, Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream at Disney Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Teatro Mayor in Bogotá, Rosina (The Barber of Seville) under Diego Ceretta at the Opéra de Lille, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) under Duncan Ward at the Opéra national de Lyon, and Angelina (La Cenerentola) at the Houston Grand Opera. She will also reprise the title role of Carmen at the Hong Kong Festival.
