David Morrow Composer

Biography

Born in Rhode Island, United States, in 1952, David Morrow studied piano and composition at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston from 1972 to 1976. Until 1987, he worked as an independent pianist and dance accompanist in Boston and New York. In 1988, he settled in Germany and started to collaborate with William Forsythe a year later. 

Since 1987, several of his compositions have been used by various choreographers, throughout Europe and the United States. In 1998, he staged his own two-hour long work Where the mountain crosses... with violin player Ian van Rensburg, sculptor Bruno Feger, and choreographer Stéphane Fléchet in Bad Nauheim, Germany. The album Where the mountain crosses was released not long after. 

In 2006, this work was retitled Bergwelten, and the premiere took place in Lucerne, Switzerland, in Decembre 2006, in collaboration with choreographer Verena Weiss. Since 2001, David Morrow has been composing works for William Forsythe: Woolf Phrase II, Decreation, Ricercar, 3 Atmospheric Studies (Part I), Clouds after Cranach (Part II) and Fivefold

Other projects include collaborations with singer and dancer Stephen Galloway, puppeteer and actrice Suse Wächter, choreographer Xin-Peng Wang, filmmaker Mike Figgis, as well as several productions with choreographer Paula Rosolen.
