Following his degree in Biochemistry from the University of Warwick, Maltman studied singing at the Royal Academy of Music. His breakthrough performance came when he won the Lieder Prize in the 1997 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Grammy Award winner Christopher Maltman has appeared on all the major operatic stages.
Recent engagements include Leporello (Don Giovanni) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Wien Staatsoper, Count di Luna (Il Trovatore) at Washington Opera, Amfortas (Parsifal) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Ford (Falstaff) at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Wotan (Die Walküre) at the Teatro di San Carlo, the title-role in Rigoletto and Scarpia (Tosca) at Staatsoper Berlin, Wotan (Das Rheingold) at Royal Opera House, Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) at Wien Staatsoper and Iago (Otello) at Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich. Concert highlights include Zemlinksy’s Lyric Symphony with Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Mahler’s Symphony No 8 with the Paris Orchestra, St Matthew’s Passion (Bach) with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius with Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem with Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Zemlinsky’s Eine florentinische Tragödie with Münchner Rundfunkorchester.
