Pianist, conductor and teacher, Carrie-Ann Matheson enjoys a multifaceted international career. She is currently Artistic Director of the San Francisco Opera Center and the Merola Opera Program. Originally from Canada, she began her career at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she worked as assistant conductor, prompter, pianist and voice teacher.
She then joined the conducting and coaching team at the Opernhaus Zurich and has also worked at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival and the Seiji Ozawa Festival in Matsumoto. As a recital pianist, she has performed on the world's greatest stages alongside opera singers such as Piotr Beczała, Benjamin Bernheim, Diana Damrau, Joyce DiDonato, Jonas Kaufmann and Rolando Villazón.
Passionate about training the next generation of opera singers and pianists, she participates in workshops and collaborates as a guest coach with the Ensemble Studio of Toronto's Canadian Opera Company, the International Opera Studio of Zurich's Opernhaus, the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program of New York's Metropolitan Opera, the Ryan Opera Center of Chicago's Lyric Opera, the Music Academy of the West, the Aspen Music Festival and the International Vocal Arts Institute. She is currently a faculty member at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Carrie-Ann Matheson assisted conductors such as James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Gianandrea Noseda, before making her debut at the Opernhaus Zurich in 2015, where she conducted works such as La finta giardiniera, Don Pasquale and Iphigénie en Tauride. In addition to her work on stage and in the rehearsal rooms, Carrie-Ann Matheson is a personal and leadership coach certified by the International Coaching Federation. She also takes part in international competitions as a member of the jury.
