Barbara Drosihn Costume

Biography

Born in Hamburg, Barbara Drosihn studied costume design at the University of Applied Sciences in her hometown after training as a seamstress. She then worked as a freelance costume designer in various theaters, including the Thalia Theater and Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Schauspielhaus in Bochum, as well as in Dresden and Cologne, collaborating with directors such as Michael Thalheimer, Stephan Kimmig, Nicolas Stemann, Andreas Kriegenburg, and Stefan Bachmann.

Barbara Drosihn works in close collaboration with Christof Loy. She designed the costumes for his first opera production, Lucrezia Borgia, at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Their collaboration continued with the costume design for his productions of Parsifal, Der Rosenkavalier, and Der ferne Klang at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, Das Wunder der Heliane and Der Schatzgräber at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Così fan tutte and Il Trittico at the Salzburg Festival, Die Königskinder and Lohengrin at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Bluebeard’s Castle / The Miraculous Mandarin at Theater Basel, La Voix humaine / Erwartung at Teatro Real in Madrid, and Don Pasquale and La Rondine at the Zurich Opera. In Zurich, she also designed the costumes for Andreas Homoki’s productions of I Puritani and Fidelio.

She also maintains a close working relationship with Tatjana Gürbaca, which began in 2011 with the operas Parsifal and The Flying Dutchman at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp. She then designed the costumes for La Traviata at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, Capriccio and the Ring Cycle at the Theater an der Wien, La finta giardiniera and Le Grand Macabre at the Zurich Opera, Káťa Kabanová at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (in collaboration with the Grand Théâtre de Genève), and Rusalka at the Hanover Staatsoper.

Among her recent productions are La Fiamma at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Manhattan Project at the Burgtheater in Vienna (Akademietheater).
