Greek bass Alexandros Stavrakakis began his musical education at an early age, receiving piano lessons from his mother. At the age of eight, he joined the children's choir of ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation). Two years later he joined the Manolis Kalomiris Children's Choir of the National Conservatory. In 2014 he graduated with honors and a special prize and was awarded the Maria Callas Scholarship. He won first prize at the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition and is a member of the ensemble of the Semperoper Dresden, where his roles include Chelio (The Love of Three Oranges), Philippe II (Don Carlo) and Colline (La Bohème).
In recent seasons he has made debuts at New York's Metropolitan Opera, Munich's Bayerische Staatsoper, the Opéra national de Bordeaux, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, Palermo's Teatro Massimo, Rome's Opera, the Verbier and Aix-en-Provence Festivals, as well as Carnegie Hall and Boston's Symphony Hall.
As a soloist, he has appeared at the Greek National Opera and the Athens Megaron, and has participated in numerous broadcasts and recitals in Athens, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Syros (Apollo Theater), Corfu, Cephalonia, Delphi, Dresden, Berlin, Baden-Baden, Kaiserslautern, Landau, Bad Elster, Istanbul, collaborating with orchestras such as the ERT Greek Symphony Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the Deutsche Philharmonie Orchester SWR, the Staatskapelle Dresden. In the 2024-2025 season, Alexandros Stavrakakis will make his debut with major institutions, as well as important roles such as Hermann (Tannhäuser) at the Houston Grand Opera and Vodnik (Rusalka) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. In concert, he sings a new work by Fazil Say and Mozart's Requiem with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.
