Biography

A native of California, Alex Rosen studied at the Juilliard School. He made his international debut with Les Arts Florissants under William Christie in two tours of Haydn's La Création and Handel's Acis et Galatée. He toured France with the Théâtre de Caen in David et Jonathas, sang the role of Alidoro (La Cenerentola) at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, the roles of the Shepherd and the Badger (The Cunning Little Vixen) at the Detroit Opera, and Time, Neptune and Antinous (Le Retour d'Ulysse dans sa patrie) at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. In concert, he toured Japan and South Korea with Les Arts Florissant in St. John Passion, toured Europe with Accentus in Handel's Messiah, and sang Honegger's Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher with the Berlin Philharmonic.

In the 2024-2025 season, Alex Rosen makes his debut at the Cologne Opera as Raphaël (La Création) and at the Opéra National du Rhin as the King of Scotland (Ariodante). He sings Melisso (Alcina) on tour with the ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro, travels to the Amsterdam National Opera for the world premiere of Philip Venables' We Are The Lucky Ones, appears as Seneca (The Coronation of Poppea) with the Nederlandse Reisopera and as Jupiter (Cavalli's La Calisto) at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.

In concert, he sings Le Messie with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and performs Le Couronnement de Poppée with the Cappella Mediterranea ensemble. Alex Rosen regularly collaborates with pianist Michał Biel, with whom he won 2nd prize in the 2018 Hugo Wolf Academy International Competition. As laureates of the Académie de la mélodie et du lied de la Fondation Royaumont, they have given recitals at the Festival du Lied Victoria de Los Angeles in Barcelona and at London's Wigmore Hall, among others.
