Dutch tenor Marcel Beekman has performed at the Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence Festivals, the Theater an der Wien, Opéra Comique, Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Opéra de Dijon, Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, at the Bregenz and Holland Festivals, the Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York in productions staged by directors including Robert Carsen, Pierre Audi, Barrie Kosky, Calixto Bieito, Ivo van Hove, Claus Guth, Stefan Herheim, Tatjana Gürbaca, Hal Hartley, Nicola Raab, Katie Mitchell and Krzysztof Warlikowski.
He has been working with many conductors: Sir Simon Rattle, Iván Fischer, William Christie, Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, Christophe Rousset, Richard Egarr, Marc Minkowski, Daniele Gatti, Sir Mark Elder, Sylvain Cambreling, John Adams and Marc Albrecht, and with various orchestra such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Royal Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre national de Lille, l'ASKO|Schönberg and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi.
Recent highlights include the roles of Bababeck (Barkouf) at the Zurich Opernhaus, the Devil (Bernhard Lang’s Dora) at the Stuttgart Staatsoper, Nutrice (L’Incoronazione di Poppea) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Mr Jones (Animal Farm by Alexander Raskatov) at Dutch National Opera, the Nurse (La finta pazza) with the Cappella Mediterranea at the Château de Versailles, Andrès, Cochenille, Frantz and Pittichinaccio (Les Contes d'Hoffmann) at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Monsieur Triquet (Eugene Onegin) at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and the title-role in Platée at the Stuttgart Staatsoper.
His discography includes a recording of Platée (title-role) in Robert Carsen’s production for the Theater an der Wien, conducted by William Christie and released on DVD by Unitel in August 2021.
