Ibrahim Maalouf Composer

Biography

Born in Beirut in 1980, Ibrahim Maalouf quickly embarked on a solo career after winning a number of international competitions. His talent in blending genres has been recognised worldwide for more than 15 years.

From the 2000s onwards, famous for the colour and specificity of his improvisations, he started to collaborate in all music disciplines, including pop, jazz, or “World Music”. Unique artists such as Sting, Salif Keita, Amadou & Mariam, Tryo, Matthieu Chedid and Angélique Kidjo collaborate with him to improve their work.

Ibrahim has also been devoting much of his time to teaching trumpet and improvisation in conservatoires since 1999. He has been invited several times by the ITG (International Trumpet Guild) in the United States for concerts and masterclasses. In 2011 he created the first classical improvisation class at the Conservatoire Régional de Paris and the Pôle Supérieur Paris Boulogne and, for several years, he has been developing specific teaching methods for classical musical improvisation in conservatoires.

In March 2022, Ibrahim Maalouf presented the Free Spirit Ensemble, which is the very first classical orchestra specialising in classical musical improvisation in the world. Since 2019, he has also been the patron of the Orchestre à l'École association, gathering several thousand orchestras across France.

Ibrahim Maalouf composed about fifteen movie soundtracks. Since 2007, he has created, composed, arranged and produced around twenty albums for himself and other artists. He has also composed numerous symphonic works.
