Eugénie Joneau Mezzo-soprano

Biography

Eugénie Joneau studied at the Lyon Conservatoire. She then joined the Opéra Studio de l'Opéra national du Rhin, where she sang the roles of the Third Nymph (Rusalka), Concepción (L'Heure Espagnole), Gertrude (Hänsel et Gretel), the German Mother / Danish Lady / Newsagent (Death in Venice) and Kate Pinkerton (Madame Butterfly). She has won numerous prizes, including second prize, the Zarzuela prize and the Birgit Nilsson prize at the Operalia Plácido Domingo competition, first prize for Revelations at the 6th Jeunes Espoirs d'Avignon competition, and second prizes at the Ténor Viñas competition in Barcelona and the Neue Stimmen competition in Germany.

She was named Révélation artiste lyrique at the 2022 Victoires de la Musique awards. She appeared as Karolka (Jenůfa) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and as Second Lady (The Magic Flute) at the Opéra national du Rhin. She made her debut in the title role of Carmen at the Festival du Toûno in Switzerland. She has also taken part in numerous concerts and recitals for France Musique, at the Festival de Cadaquès, the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, in Verdi's Messa di Requiem at the Opéra de Montpellier and Mozart's Requiem with the Opéra de Toulon, and in concerts with the Académie du Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. Last season, she made her debut in the role of Adalgisa (Norma) at La Scala in Milan, conducted by Riccardo Muti, and sang the role of Bonté (Guercœur) at the Opéra national du Rhin.

During the 2024-2025 season, she made her debuts at the Opéra de Marseille as Suzuki (Madame Butterfly), at the Opéra de Rouen as Mère Marie (Dialogues de carmélites), and at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse as Adalgisa and Mary (Le Vaisseau Fantôme).
