Born in Houston, Texas, Ayman Harper studied at the High School for the Performing & Visual Arts, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the Houston Ballet Academy. An interdisciplinary artist and educator committed to the performing and visual arts community, he has performed in over twenty-five countries and taught on five continents. A former dancer with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Nederlands Dans Theatre 2, Frankfurt Ballet and the Forsythe Company, he has collaborated with and performed work by some of the most influential artists in his field.
In 2009, he received a personal invitation from Mikhail Baryshnikov to perform alongside him at the Baryshnikov Arts Center Gala. He has remounted William Forsythe's repertoire with companies all over the world, including La Scala, Nederlands Dans Theater, San Francisco Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, English National Ballet, Staatsballett Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Dutch Nationale Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance and Sydney Dance Company. Ayman Harper has also been practicing and teaching improvisation for over 25 years.
As a choreographer, he has created works for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago 2, Nederlands Dans Theatre 2, The Forsythe Company and various international companies and universities. As an interdisciplinary artist, his installations have been commissioned by the Smithsonian Museum. In 2010, he collaborated with Arto Lindsay and Rirkrit Tiravanijaa for the Nuit Blanche festival in Paris. In the field of music, his taps were used on the track You on the Matmos album The Marriage of True Minds. Ayman Harper has always been driven to pursue his passion for teaching alongside his career as a performer and choreographer. He has developed an approach to teaching that encourages non-violent communication and promotes the exploration of artistic sensibilities, while emphasizing accessibility and inclusion for all who wish to experience it.
