Born in Iran, Amir Hosseinpour founded the Amir Hosseinpour Dance Company in 1992. His repertoire includes Fantasie Nocturne (Turtle Key Arts Centre, London) and Is That All There Is (Almeida Theatre and La MaMa, New York). He is working worldwide for opera, dance and cinema projects. As a choreographer, he has worked on many productions including Philip Glass’s Alice (co-choreographed with Jonathan Lunn) and Pierrot Lunaire (Opéra national du Rhin), The Exterminating Angel (Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera New York, Salzburg Festival and Copenhagen Opera House), Bomarzo (Teatro Real Madrid), Guillaume Tell (Welsh National Opera, Grand Theatre in Warsaw and Grand Théâtre Genève), L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, Le Nain and La Juive (Paris Opera), Philip Glass’s Spuren der Verirrten (Linz), Les Troyens, La Juive, Castor et Pollux, Alice and Alceste (Dutch National Opera), Maria de Buenos Aires (Teatro Nacional São Carlos, Lisbon), Die Florentiner Intermedian (Sarrebruck), Tannhäuser (Baden-Baden), Zoroastre (Opéra Comique, Drottningholm), Giulio Cesare (Bayerische Staatsoper Munich), Les Troyens (Teatro alla Scala), The Midsummer Marriage (Munich), The Flying Dutchman (Lille Opera), Petrushka (Bayerisches Staatsballett, Munich), Der Goldene Hahn (Bregenz Festival) and, for the television, Abfallprodukte der Liebe a movie by Werner Schroeter (ARTE, Germany). He also directed the stagings of La Traviata (Landestheater Niederbayern), Orlando Paladino and Sokrates (Innsbruck, Berlin), Hôtel Pékin (Nationale Reisopera) and, in collaboration with Nigel Lowery, Platée (Dutch National Opera), de Tale of the Soldier (Barcelona Festival), L'italiana in Algeri (Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin), Rinaldo (Montpellier, Innsbruck, Berlin – Best Production Opernwelt), Orphée et Eurydice (Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich), Les Paladins (Basel) and The Barber of Seville (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden).
