While the Opera awaited the completion of the theatre in the Rue Le Peletier, Papillon de La Ferté, Intendant of the Royal Theatres, ordered its transfer to the Salle Louvois.
The Opera’s time there would prove fleeting (lasting a mere month, from May 13 to June 15, 1821) but it did buy the troupe time given that work on the new theatre had fallen six months behind schedule.
Built in 1791, the Salle Louvois was not large (1,100 seats) and the Opera had to share the theatre with the troupe of the Théâtre Italien.
As a result, the Opera gave few performances there, and at the end of the summer in 1821 it moved to the newly completed Salle Le Peletier for what would be an extended period.
